Clean and unisex. Toilets are steel prison toilets. No seat paper.
Nestled within a small garden near the World Trade Centre site it is quite hard to find even with Maps pointing the way. It is an interesting relic of the times when western and eastern Germany were separated. It is completely out of context in New York and it is like they have no idea what to do with it apart from put it on display. There is no interpretation or signage. You only know what it is because Maps says it is and you can find mention on websites.
Deep underground within the 14th/8th Street Subway station is the most amazing fantastical excursion into art with the Tom Otterness sculpture collection known collectively as Life Underground. I spent about an hour and a half walking through the station trying to find all of the sculptures. I found most of them and I really enjoyed the experience of exploring looking for more. Amazingly when I would get down on the floor or climb to photograph something some of the locals would look to see what I was doing and start because they had not noticed the statues before. I had quite a few interesting conversations with people who were noticing what I was noticing and they'd used the station for years. The MTA Police were onto the game though and one officer when I missed one kindly pointed it out. I guess they're used to watching people come in and discover. What a wonderful experience. You really need to visit this if you're in NYC. #letsguide
Sadly the art walls compound was locked up on the afternoon that I went to Coney Island but by wandering around I was able to see most of them and get decent images of a few of them. The walls seem to have different hours to everything else. The person I travelled with was surprised to see them shut.
Nobelius is a small request stop way station. Facilities include a shelter and bench to wait for trains. The station is one of the heritage stops on the railway that trains don't normally stop at. They will stop in request when arrangements are made in advance via the Belgrave Station Master.
